iPhone Albums disappearing after restore but can still see in apps

Hi there

I recently upgraded to an iPhone 7 and after restoring from hard drive back up all my personal albums have disappeared from the photos app but if i go into Instagram, VSCOcam or even wallpaper in settings i can see them all

Also if i go in to all photos in albums the photos either appear to be all jumbled up or not all there however if i go into moments all photos are there

Before backing up to hard drive just before the upgrade my previous iphone was usually backed up to icloud, now when i turn it on just to check i weirdly have the same problem on the old iphone 6plus too

I have googled relentlessly and only found one topic on this from years ago that never had an answer.. anyone have any ideas? very strange
